Aerial Yoga

Classes beginning Oct. 1, 2017


Whether you are a beginner or a seasoned yogi, aerial yoga provides opportunity to take your yoga practice to a new level (above the mat!) Our aerial classes are not a workout class or a circus aerial dance class but a truly yogic experience with flexibility, balance and inversion challenges combined with restorative poses and mindful flow. Our instructors are all E-RYT-500 certified yoga teachers and aerial yoga lead trainers.


Students need invert only to the degree that feels comfortable, while gravity and the support of a swing helps them find a deeper expression of postures while enjoying the benefits of inversion safely. In addition to enhanced flexibility and strength building, aerial yoga lowers blood pressure, provides spinal decompression, and cleanses the body energetically as well as physically.  


Heartwood uses the user friendly om gym system making Aerial accessible to all levels of experience. We offer both aerial flow class and restorative, gentle aerial yoga.

Beginners are welcome to come to class, and teachers will always help each student acclimate to the swing, but if you feel a private lesson would make your first introduction to the swing easier, please see our private yoga session information.

Tips to get the most out of your aerial yoga class.


  • Bring your yoga mat (or you can borrow one of ours.) 
  • Wear comfortable yoga clothing, mindful that you may be upside down, so clothing that is too loose is not recommended.  
  • For the best experience, please do not eat an hour before the class. 
  • For joint safety, this class is not recommended for anyone weighing over 300 pounds.
  • Aerial Yoga is not recommended for pregnant women or anyone with extremely high blood pressure. 
  • Please only do what feels comfortable for you and hold inversions only as long as enjoy being upside down. (It only takes a 90 second inversion to gain all the benefits of lymph cleansing. for spinal decompression, longer inversions will be encouraged.)  Our teachers will provide careful instruction and alternate poses as is fitting.
